News from Jogja : The Eye of the Lens, The Eye of the Heart
With the Jogja Charity Concert and BBCG Charity Golf Tournament still fresh in our memories, Sector Bar in Sanur is currently showcasing another charitable event in the shape of a photo exhibition called Kabar Dari Jogja: Mata Lensa Mata Hati (News from Jogja : The Eye of the Lens, The Eye of the Heart) until 15 September. The aim of the exhibition is to truly capture the impact of the earthquake on the place and the people who live there. More than 25 images are on display, from the lenses of business people who put special interest in photography like Lendy Widayana, Petra Wangsadiharja and Ali Hendrosusanto. All were donated free of charge, which means that prices for the photographs are fixed by the buyers themselves. All proceeds will go towards building a library in several parts of Jogjakarta and Central Java.
The idea of making News from Jogja the theme for this exhibition arose soon after the earthquake that hit central Java, with a team of photographers arriving in Jogja shortly afterwards. From the hundreds of frames that were taken, a selection was chosen together with the title. Curator Bambang AW said that it was a perfect idea to use the photos as an informational medium about the disaster, helping people to understand the extent of its impact. Photographs are on display and for sale in Sector Bar and Restaurant until September 15th.
